Welcome! My name is Amy (she/her) and I am the Director of the Language Center at Carleton College. Prior to Carleton, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Linguistics at Boston University.
I received my PhD in Linguistics from Purdue University in 2022. My research interests lie broadly in the fields of experimental phonetics and second language acquisition and my dissertation research focused on the effect of foreign language film on non-native speech production and perception. Watch me talk about my dissertation here and see my 'Research' page to learn more about the research I'm conducting! I also completed a MA in Linguistics at Purdue University. My thesis examined the production of voice onset time and onset f0 by second language learners of French. While at Purdue, I was involved in a number of second language speech projects conducted by the Phonetics and Phonology Lab such as research examining the effect of language attitudes on perceived second language intelligibility, proficiency, and accentedness. Prior to my time at Purdue University, I received a BA in French and a BA in German Studies with a minor in Applied Linguistics from the University of South Florida in 2016. Outside of research, I enjoy caring for my 75+ houseplants, reading fantasy novels, and hanging out with my one-eyed rescue cat, Buster. |
